Twenty-five minutes west of Toowoomba on the Warrego and right on our main run, which makes Oakey one of the cheapest places on the Downs to get a container delivered. Aviation, meat processing and feedlots in one small town, plus a lot of people who work in Toowoomba and live here for the block size.
Around Oakey it's mostly trade and hobby-shed overflow on the bigger town blocks, feed and equipment on the lots out towards Jondaryan and Bowenville, and secure storage for contractors servicing the aviation and processing operations. Whichever it is, we'd rather talk it through than take an order off a form. The size is usually the easy part — where it sits and how it gets there is worth five minutes.

Freight is a bigger part of a container's delivered cost than most people expect, and it's mostly a function of how far the truck deviates from a run it was making anyway. Oakey sits directly on the highway between our yard and Toowoomba, which is the busiest leg we run. That makes it about as good as delivered pricing gets in this region.
It also means short notice is often possible here when it isn't elsewhere. If you need something quickly and you're in Oakey, Jondaryan, Bowenville or Kingsthorpe, it's worth asking rather than assuming.
Oakey has a lot of blocks in the awkward middle — bigger than a Toowoomba suburban lot, smaller than real acreage. Big enough to accumulate a boat, a camper, a trailer and three projects; too small to justify a full shed and the approval that goes with it.
A 20ft along the back fence is the usual answer, and a 10ft if the side access won't take anything longer. Worth knowing that the 10ft costs more than the 20ft — they're cut down from larger units and rebuilt, so you pay for fabrication. If the space allows a 20ft, buy the 20ft.
Most of Oakey is a simple delivery: flat, gridded streets, decent frontages and very little overhead to worry about. The catch is the older cottage blocks near the centre of town, where the house sits close to one boundary and the side access is narrower than it looks from the street — measure the gap between the house and the fence before you assume a 20ft will pass. Out on the flat towards Jondaryan and Kingsthorpe the ground carries a truck well most of the year, which is not something we can say about everywhere on the Downs.
The baseline is unchanging — solid footing, an unobstructed run in, and nothing above the placement point. Anything outside that usually means a crane rather than a refusal. Details in the delivery access guide.
